Plot[]
Arata arrives at school tired from staying up too late, and opening his locker he finds a letter made from folded paper. From the use of the most respectful honorific in conjunction with his name he deduces it must be Chizuru returning the money he lent to her earlier. Opening the letter, he finds Hideyo Noguchi's face in the 1000 yen bill with a silly hat folded from the rest of the bill and with a speech bubble telling Arata he is in his care now.
As he enters the classroom Arata goes to Chizuru's desk to ask about the letter, on the verge of bursting out laughing because of her gag. Brimming with determination Chizuru tells him she chose to search the internet for an interesting way to return the money, cracking Arata up. However, irritated by Ryō looking at him with a knowing smile from the desk next to them Arata leaves for his own desk, thinking to himself that it was nothing more than him finding Chizuru cute in a little sister kind of way for awkwardly trying to improve herself. As Arata arrives at his desk Kazuomi greets him using his given name, and despite Kazuomi's offer to use his given name too Arata prefers to stick with using his family name.
The school day starts and Kazuomi and Chizuru are announced as class representatives, having been the best-scoring boy and girl in the exams on the first day of school. Having for his part failed all the exams, Arata notices that Rena is giving off a seriously ill-tempered atmosphere and deduces that it must be because she lost her place as the best girl in the class to Chizuru.
